Angels and Airwaves LOVE album cover

Original Cover Art.

So this took me awhile mostly because I was trying to fine tune it so much. So got a picture that is used on the  album LOVE and the O portion of the word used to sit a crescent moon with an astronaut sitting on it. I replaced that with a scaled down earth because the lyrics to most of their songs are implying the concept of love and peace. By adding the earth, I believe that scale that the lyrics reach as far as love and peace is concerned is world wide. I also used the AVA symbol at the top of the album as that is the bands trademark. In the middle and only color besides the earth is a red heart implying "Love". I used the paint brush to draw it in. Since the image was skewed a little bit, I had to fool around with the free transform to get it to sit right for me. The heart's bottom tip is stemming from the earth almost as to say love on earth, which is what the band strives for. Lastly, I used the text editor to write in Angels & Airwaves. I used a drop shadow about 8% and then used an outer glow around the letters. After that was done, I removed the connectors for the "A's" to hit on how the band spells out their band name. This is a great band, with a great message behind them. Hope you like!

Ok, so I took a step back and tried to think about what I could do to make it better. I really like the original and didn't really know how I could make it better. So I went to a black theme to try to hit on their outter space type design they have on their albums. To do that I added a bas relief to the background and fooled around with the spacing and lighting to give an almost charcoal look. Afterwards I took the original heart and changed the shadow to red to more emphasize the heart. I added a banner and made it more opaque to make it blend in more with the background. I changed the AVA logo to accommodate the newly added features. I gave the original AVA an embossed look. I changed the Angels & Airwaves text on the side to white instead of black. I also re-imaged the LOVE logo to to white. I feel the final version came out a lot better. I hope you guys enjoy it.

Re-Design

Original edit.

So for the redesign of the photo I decided to add a little bit of color to make it a bit more lively. So first off, I like to associate red with playground swing sets so I used a water color paint brush .25 size and drew in the swing set bars. The farther the swing set bars got away, I made the a bit more opaque to give the illusion of distance. Afterwards, I drew in the tree behind it with the water color brush. I dabbed it so that it looked more leaf like instead of just a green glob along with the base of the tree being brown. After that I drew in the chain for the actual swings so that they looked like swings and weren't lost in the picture, along with a grey hue for the seats. Lastly, I did a blue paint brush behind the words to almost imply the lacking blue sky. I didn't want to emphasize more then what I thought was necessary to get the point across.

Designs are fun

This is the original image I used

This is the after image.

I used Illustrator to turn the photo to a gray hue and then added a canvas effect. I then brought it over to Photoshop to re-size it and added text. The reason I chose this picture is because it reminds me of a time when happiness was something achieved, it was lived.
